Ortega Presbyterian Fall Bible Conference October 3-5, 2008
Theme: What Does It Mean to Be Presbyterian?
What does it mean to be a Presbyterian? Do those who call themselves Presbyterians, or worship at a Presbyterian church, really know the Presbyterian ‘story’ or embrace its heritage? Do confessional stance and historic identity shape the life and worship of conservative Presbyterians, or do other ideas, practices, and narratives shape them? Does Presbyterianism have any relevance for post-moderns—a compelling ‘story’ to tell? Why do many of our churches today remove the word ‘Presbyterian’ from their names? These are the sorts of questions Dr. Sean Lucas will address at our 2008 conference. The Conference should profit Christians of all denominations since similar issues confront all churches in a post-modern age.
Speaker: Dr. Sean Michael Lucas (Assoc. Prof. Church History, Covenant Seminary)
Sean Michael Lucas joined the faculty of Covenant Theological Seminary (St. Louis, MO) in 2004 and serves as its Chief Academic Officer and as Associate Professor of Church History. An ordained minister of the PCA, he received his B.A. and M.A. at Bob Jones University and Ph. D. at Westminster Theological Seminary, and has served pastorates in Missouri and Kentucky. He is the author of Robert Lewis Dabney: A Southern Presbyterian Life and On Being Presbyterian: Our Beliefs, Practices, and Stories, and co-edited All for Jesus: A Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Covenant Theological Seminary. When he is not chasing his four children with his wife, Sara, he plays shortstop for his church's softball team, follows the St. Louis Cardinals, and works in his garden.
